Sparta, which has a population of approximately 4000 people, is a friendly community located in a very rural area.
It is located about an hour from both St. Louis, Missouri and Carbondale, Illinois, which are both great places to go for shopping and entertainment. There are also a lot of good colleges and junior colleges in the area (McKendree University, SIU-Carbondale, SIU-Edwardsville, St. Louis University and SWIC, just to name a few).
If you enjoy the outdoors, Sparta is located in a great area for hunting, fishing, hiking, camping and boating. And if you enjoy shooting sports, we are home to the World Shooting and Recreational Complex, which brings in shooters (skeet, trap, clays and cowboy action shooters) from all around the world.
The members of Westminster truly feel that our church is a family. We enjoy planning events that help bring all of our members closer together--ice cream socials, meals, and "Worship in the Park," to name a few.
We like to find ways to include our youth in our services. Every Sunday our younger kids acolyte and participate in the Children's Sermon. They also provide singing for special services a few times a year.
Our church is a beacon in the community, providing a food pantry and a backpack program to help provide healthy meals for students.
On Wednesday evenings the children are invited to attend "Calvin's Kids," where we provide a meal, and help them to grow their faith with crafts, lessons and singing. We have a lot of volunteers who help make this program very successful.
Our church is truly blessed with a congregation that cares about our community.
